For all those 8 to 5 folks, this is the usual. However, in the arts and service industries, our week is just beginning. This weekend in Houston is a large event going on in the Montrose known as LUEY or “Let Us Entertain You” weekend where the leather folk from Houston extend the red carpet to the folks from New Orleans that put out, err, put on Mardi Gras every year. It’s a fun event and takes place in the bars and denzions of the Greater Houston Midtown Area.
This is one of the places I shop! Global Seafoods North America has a great selection of seafoods and condiments to go along with them! It’s important to source ingredients at a cost effective and with a high quality.
The Wild Alaskan Smoked Salmon is fantastic, especially on a Sunday morning with a good bagel and eggs. My coffee comes from New Orleans.
And then there is Caviar for the discriminate tastes! Here, we have an excellent Caviar! Try it, you will like it!
No kneading, you just mix it up and bake it
1 cup butter, softened
2 cups sugar
2 cups buttermilk or 2 cups milk plus 2 tablespoons vinegar or lemon juice
4 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
2/3 cups sugar
2 teaspoons cinnamon
Cream together butter, 2 cups of sugar, and eggs. Add milk, flour, and baking soda. Put 1/2 of batter (or a little less) into greased loaf pans (1/4 in each pan). Mix in separate bowl the 2/3 c sugar and cinnamon. Sprinkle 3/4 of cinnamon mixture on top of the 1/2 batter in each pan. Add remaining batter to pans; sprinkle with last of cinnamon topping. Swirl with a knife. Bake at 350 degrees for 45-50 min. or until toothpick tester come clean.
Cool in pan for 20 minutes before removing from pan.
What an exquisite little place in Southwest Austin! Reminds me a bit of hanging out in the Bywater and Marginey of New Orleans. The decor and the music takes me to that magical place called New Orleans.
The food was prepared with the touch of a New Orleans Chef with aromatic bouquets of quintessential elegance and that raucous spice of Cajun Cuisine. The Dixieland playing on a loop track just added to the flair of this establishment.
I had the Crawfish Ettouffee which was served in a nice size bowl with a splattering of paprika and chili powder around the rim and some fresh green onion stems for added flavor. The Stuffed Pistolette with a creamy crawfish filing was like to the taste buds and spiced to bring out the flavor of the crawfish.
Mark had the Chicken and Sausage Gumbo with the traditional dark roux base. Heavy flavored by lite on the palette. Eric had the chicken fried steak that was a creation to see and taste.
All in all, a great experience and I will be back to try the house pasta specials.
We had a wonderful evening out on Thursday, February 4.2016 at this upscale Mexican Restaurant in Houston! The atmosphere was very unique for this area of Houston and the service was impeccable.
We were greeted at the door instantly by a hostess that had it on the ball and were seated immediately. What took me aback was the decor, a good mix of old and new with a tree trunk table in the middle of the main seating area. We walked to up a practically new building that was formerly 611, a bit a divey establishment during the time I have been in Houston. I didn’t know what to expect with the redesign but what I saw on first impression was a very unique concept for the Montrose. The façade features a series of porches on two floors along with a rustic exterior that took me back to being at Disney World and the Country Bear Jamboree. Interesting as the Eagle is also home to the Houston Bears. It seems as no detail has been left out on this building and what a revamp.
American Fuzion! What a concept with the US of A being the Melting Pot of the world and a dynamic diversity of food, art and music combine into one.
